Windscreen Replacement Fareham

Experts in windscreen replacement

Cracks in the windscreen are a frequent issue for drivers. Generally, a crack is caused when a stone flicks up from the road, hits the windscreen and then forms a small crack. Typically, these smaller cracks & chips can be straightforward to repair. Alternatively, there are times when a heavier impact occurs, doing significant damage to the Windscreen and this can lead to needing your windscreen replaced. One of our expert windscreen engineers will come and assess your car windscreen damage and be able to advise you if your windscreen can be repaired or needs a replacement.

Replacement or repair?

The amount of damage and the location of the damage typically determine whether to repair or replace a chip or crack in the windscreen. You will fail your MOT if the damage is larger than 10mm and is located in the space directly in front of the driver. Depending on where the fracture is in relation to where the driver sits, the crack elsewhere on the windscreen may range in size from 15 to 40 millimetres. Any larger than these limits, and your vehicle will fail its MOT, rendering it unfit for the road.

Star or structural?

The kind of damage is the other crucial element. For instance, star cracks, which spread from a single impact point, may be repairable if they are small and out of the driver’s field of vision. But replacement windscreens are typically required for structural defects. That’s because the windscreen could break as a result of a crash, jolt, or even changes in temperature.

We always attempt to repair when possible but there are times when a replacement is the best course of action. We can complete this work either at your home or place of work whichever is more convenient.
